Christian meditation? Are those two words compatible?
Christian meditation is not about just clearing your mind. It's about...

I once got so physically sick that all I could do was lay down on the couch most of the dayā¦ for months on end. I was nauseous, anxious, and discouraged. My body was at its worst physical state, I just kept getting sickness after sickness, and just couldnāt rebound.
During one of the hardest times in my life, what helped?
Worrying about it. (Haha, kidding.)
One thing helped significantly was prayerful Christian meditations.
Christian meditationā¦
helped bring the deep anchoring truth of Godās Word in my heart, when I didnāt know what to pray.
reminded me of Godās love for me.
gave me a break from the craziness of life, showing me thereās a bigger picture.
helped me see that God could use that sickness for good.
showed me God is enough for today.
Butā¦ isnāt Christian meditation taboo?
Yep.
Itās taboo if you misunderstand it or search in the wrong places for answers.
Christian meditation is not about just clearing your mind. Itās about full and complete surrender to the Lord.
Let me repeat that once moreā¦
Christian meditation is not about just clearing your mind.
Itās about full and complete surrender to the Lord.
And, if youāre still on the fence, consider your favorite worship songs or consider liturgy prayers. Whatās different from that and prayerful Christian meditations? Itās content thatās been written and created out of the overflow of love and connection with the Lord thatās meant to be shared and repeated in solace and in community.
It helped me, and it could help you.
"But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night."
Psalm 1:2 ESV
What are some good Christian meditation apps?
ā ļø One caution to take is to not just take any meditation app and call it good. You want one that aligns with the Word of God. Modern meditation tends to points a person towards self as being the answer, but history goes to show we cannot be our own savior and need a savior, Jesus

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

ā from Cam Pak, someone whoās found a deeper, richer relationship with God through Christian meditation.
I love meditation, but I'm not sure I would spiritualise or secularise it. I love to meditate on scripture - I constantly have a verse of scripture running around my head all day. But I also find the act of sitting silently and focusing on my breath incredibly useful. Now *that's* taboo. We're firmly in the land of mindfulness here, and its roots can be traced back to Buddhism if you look in the right (wrong) places. So is it wrong for me to focus on my breath? Of course not, but the people who teach this are not Christians. It's meditation. It's not Christian meditation, but I'm a Christian (and a pastor - gasp!) - and the Holy Spirit has used this in the continual renewing of my mind.
