I love meditation, but I'm not sure I would spiritualise or secularise it. I love to meditate on scripture - I constantly have a verse of scripture running around my head all day. But I also find the act of sitting silently and focusing on my breath incredibly useful. Now *that's* taboo. We're firmly in the land of mindfulness here, and its roots can be traced back to Buddhism if you look in the right (wrong) places. So is it wrong for me to focus on my breath? Of course not, but the people who teach this are not Christians. It's meditation. It's not Christian meditation, but I'm a Christian (and a pastor - gasp!) - and the Holy Spirit has used this in the continual renewing of my mind.
Amen, brother. While it's not "Christian meditation" per se, people will be searching for those keywords. I want to point them to Truth and deep communion with the Trinity.
There is a point to just breathing that is so restful and healing.
And then there's a deep connection with God and who God made me to be that brings strength and freedom.
Modern meditation tends to points a person towards self as being the answer, but history goes to show we cannot be our own savior and need a savior, Jesus
Hope you liked the post and found some value in it, David!
